The Yule Ball is becoming an annual tradition for the Tarleton State University Quidditch Association and Harry Potter fans. The Quidditch team hosted the fundraiser event on Feb. 2, in the Barry B. Thompson Student Center’s ballroom.

“We have games, food and dances. It’s very fun and all Harry Potter theme,” said Tara N. Stewart, Tarleton Quidditch Association president.
The Tarleton Quidditch Association worked hard to bring the magic of Harry Potter into this event. The caldron toss was the main attraction of the night, in which participants tried to score ping-pong balls into caldrons.
Everything was designed to share a fun time and celebrate their passion for the Harry Potter world.
“Tables are Harry Potter theme and there is one table for each house,” Stewart said.
The houses, a way in which the wizarding school of Hogwarts distinguishes its students, are a fundamental part of Yule Ball. Each attendant chooses to seat at the table of one of four houses that matches best with their personality; gold for Gryffindor, blue and bronze for Ravenclaw, green and silver for Slytherin and yellow for Hufflepuff.

“My house is Ravenclaw and people typically don’t like this house because it’s for the smart kids,” said Lance Shipman.
Harry Potter has impacted the life of the members of the association in meaningful ways, giving them the opportunity to make lifetime friendships.
“For us, it’s a way to get together with friends and have fun,” said Alisha Pate, member of the Quidditch Association.
The Quidditch Association meets weekly in the O.A. Grant Humanities building and they welcome everyone who wants to share a good time and make new friends.

“The first campus interaction I had was with the Quidditch group and before I just had a couple of friends on campus,” Shipman said.
The event helped the team to raise funds before starting their official practices.
“I am finishing the paperwork. We will probably start later on this month,” Stewart commented.
Practices will be hosted at Heritage Park, with hopes to build a solid team with the idea of re-joining the International Quidditch Association and playing against other universities in the near future.

“We would love to travel to the other colleges that have Quidditch teams and play matches against them. As right now, we don’t have enough members who weekly show up to practices,” Patel said.
