About me...

I am originally from Madrid, Spain. I moved to the United States four years ago to start my college career. I am a student-athlete and I play volleyball at Tarleton. We have had an incredible success in the last few seasons, including the first Elite 8 appearance in the program’s history. I believe sports have taught me some of the most important lessons of my life; the importance of teamwork, discipline, commitment, faith, and above all, I learned that if you love what you do, you’ll be successful.

I'm currently taking a Technical Writing class (Writing for Electronic Mediums-ENGL 4320) at Tarleton. This website showcases the projects we’ve worked on throughout the semester. This class focuses on web and social media writing, which currently is a fundamental part of journalism. On this website you can also find work I've done outside of the class, such as TV packages created with Adobe Premiere Pro, anchoring different newscast in English and Spanish, and some of the articles I’ve written for the Texan News Service (TNS) . My WordPress blog “Life is beautiful and short”, is also featured on this website.

I have two big passions. The first one is sports, especially volleyball and (of course) European soccer—I am a Real Madrid fan. Volleyball has changed my life and ultimately, It has given me the opportunity to study in the US. The three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh, describes perfectly what this sport means to me in this quote:

My name is Blanca Izquierdo, I'm a senior Communications major with an emphasis in journalism and broadcasting, at Tarleton State University in Stephenville Texas. I will be graduating in May, 2019.

My other passion is journalism. I am a very creative person and I absolutely love writing. I enjoy talking to people, learning about their stories, and giving them voice. I truly believe journalism makes the world a better place, fights injustices, fosters freedom and tolerance. Journalism is essential in every democracy. I've been involved with student media since my first year at Tarleton (junior class), serving as an anchor, multimedia journalist, and a sports writer for Texan News; which gave me the opportunity to improve my writing and reporting skills. The TNS faculty advisor and my mentor is the Pulitzer Prize winner, Dan Malone.

I love my family; they are my biggest support even though they are in Spain. My life motto is “believe you can, and you will.” I am very confident and I can’t wait to see what life has in store for me.
